What makes us special & why you should consider coming to stay at Scotswood?
At Scotswood we believe in creating an environment where it’s a home. The house is beautiful – yes – but what makes us really special is the energy that we have here, the enthusiasm of our amazing staff, the understanding and compassion, the strength and the support. Recovery is a serious business, but we believe in keeping it light and fun, and concentrating on all that’s positive out there without the need for anything extra to make life enjoyable. We believe in getting back to the basics of nature, community and friendships to feed the soul and find one’s purpose. We organise fun things every week such as ‘secret sunrise’ concerts, outings to Hermanus to see the whales, organized tours to the Garden Route (specifically for people in recovery), fun barbecue evenings, Mad Hatters Tea Parties or just fun community evenings learning to make pasta in our gorgeous French Country Kitchen. These are the things that our guests really love. These are the things that set us apart.
Aside from the fun stuff, we also have excellent support – more than most traditional sober living homes. Our daily routine and staff on board are above and beyond the norm. We start our day with compulsory “Serenity” on the deck, all our guests then set off for the day either to work, a volunteer program, their ‘desk’ in our mess area, or a surf lesson. Our full-time counsellor is here daily for private sessions and support. Our Recovery Assistants, who are here 7 nights a week until curfew, allow our guests to work through anything they might need to in the evenings. Our weekly Relapse Prevention Group is full of practical tools to prevent relapse and recognize the triggers and our weekly goals group sets the guests up with good intention for the week. All this in a week at Scotswood, and all included in the price.
